The Bayelsa State Vigilante Network apprehended a man and three women in Yenagoa for selling vulture meat as chicken to unsuspecting buyers. The suspects were caught at Tombia Market, Etegwe Yenagoa, with about 30 dead vultures prepared for boiling.
The man confessed to using dead meat bones to attract vultures, killing them with chemicals, and selling the meat to market women and chicken traders in major markets.
The three women, from Ughelli, Delta State, confessed to importing vulture and donkey meat from neighboring states and selling them at cheap prices to restaurant, bar, and canteen owners.
The Bayelsa State Vigilante Network, led by Comr. Bunas Samuel Michael, handed the suspects over to the Akenfa Division of the Bayelsa Police Command.
The Vigilante Network’s coordinator, Bunas Samuel, advised Bayelsans to be cautious about what they consume and urged NAFDAC to regulate food hawkers’ activities.
